
For this shot of the west side of City Hall, I used Photoshop to blur various parts of the picture to different degrees (compare it with the original). The idea is to reproduce the short depth of field that’s usually a natural effect of macro shots, so it makes the objects in the foreground look miniature. I got the idea from a photo by Miles Rigent, who points out in the comments that John Perkinson of Orbit1 achieved a similar result with a large format camera.
